Understanding DTF Transfers
What is a DTF transfer?
A DTF (Direct to Film) transfer is a printing method where your design is printed onto a specialized film using DTF ink, coated with adhesive powder, and cured. Once complete, the transfer can be applied to almost any fabric using heat and pressure, creating a durable, vibrant print.
What materials can DTF transfers be applied to?
DTF works on all major fabric types, including cotton, polyester, blends, tri-blends, fleece, nylon, and even some tricky fabrics where DTG or HTV may fail. This makes DTF one of the most versatile printing methods available.
How long do DTF transfers last?
With correct application, DTF transfers typically last 50+ washes without cracking or peeling. Their durability is comparable to screen printing and stronger than many HTV or vinyl options.
Ordering & Minimums
Is there a minimum order quantity?
No minimums. You can order one small transfer or thousands, making DTF ideal for samples, one-offs, and large production runs.
What sizes do you offer?
We print everything from small 2×2 inch logo transfers to 24-inch-wide gang sheets up to 20 feet long. You can upload single designs or fill a gang sheet for maximum value.
What file format should my artwork be?
We recommend transparent PNG files at 300 DPI for the cleanest edges and highest detail. You may upload JPGs, but they will include a background.
What if my artwork size is wrong?
You’re responsible for uploading artwork at the correct size. If you need exact dimensions, use our gang sheet builder or contact us before ordering.
Gang Sheets
Do I need to arrange my own gang sheet?
No. Wright Transfers handles the gang sheet layout for you.
You simply upload your individual designs, and we organize them onto a gang sheet in the most efficient way possible.
How does the gang sheet process work?
You upload your artwork files, and our team arranges them to maximize space. Once the sheet is built, we print it exactly as arranged.
Can I review the gang sheet before it prints?
If you request a preview, we can provide a layout for approval. Approval delays production, so same-day or rush orders may bypass preview unless requested at checkout.
What sizes do your gang sheets come in?
Gang sheets are 24 inches wide and cut to your chosen length (up to 20 feet). We optimize placement so you get the best value.
What if I upload many designs?
No problem. We’ll place them efficiently and print one continuous gang sheet so you can cut as needed.
Why is having Wright Transfers build the gang sheet helpful?
-
Better use of space
-
Faster workflow
-
No design software needed
-
Fewer layout errors
-
Ideal for beginners and large batches
What file format should I upload for the gang sheet?
You can upload individual transparent PNG files (300 DPI recommended).
If you already have a pre-arranged gang sheet file, you can upload that instead.
Do you resize my artwork when building the gang sheet?
No. We place everything at the exact size you upload. If you need specific dimensions, size your artwork before sending it in.
Pressing & Application
What type of heat press do I need?
For best results, use a clamshell or swing-away heat press with accurate temperature and pressure control. Household irons may work but are not recommended for consistent, professional results.
What are the recommended heat press settings?
While settings may vary by fabric, a standard starting point is:
-
310–325°F
-
8–12 seconds
-
Firm pressure
Always pre-press the garment and test new fabrics before bulk production.
Can I press DTF transfers on any color garment?
Yes. DTF transfers work on light, dark, and vibrant garments with no loss in opacity.
Why didn’t my transfer press correctly?
Most failures are related to heat press issues:
-
Temperature running too hot/cold
-
Insufficient pressure
-
Fabric coatings blocking adhesion
Always test your settings before pressing production batches.
Durability & Care
How do DTF transfers hold up in the wash?
When pressed correctly, DTF transfers are highly durable and resist cracking, fading, and peeling. For longest life, machine wash cold and hang dry if possible.
Can DTF prints crack or peel?
Yes, but only when incorrectly applied or if the press temperature / pressure is inconsistent. Proper pressing ensures long-lasting results.
Turnaround & Shipping
How fast will my order ship?
Standard turnaround is 24–48 hours. We also offer same-day printing for orders placed before 10 AM PST, depending on workload.
Do you offer rush or overnight options?
Yes. Rush processing and expedited shipping options are available at checkout.
Will I receive tracking information?
Yes, tracking is automatically emailed once your order ships.
Troubleshooting & Issues
My transfer didn’t stick to the fabric. What should I do?
Most adhesion problems come from press temperature or pressure. Use a thermometer to verify your press accuracy, increase pressure, and re-press with a fresh parchment sheet.
The edges of my print lifted after washing. Why?
This usually means the first press didn’t have enough pressure or the garment was not pre-pressed. Repressing for 3–5 seconds often fixes lifted edges.
Refunds, Reprints & Guarantees
What is your refund policy?
If there is a manufacturing defect with your transfer, we will reprint or refund the affected portion. Issues caused by incorrect artwork, gang sheet layout errors, or improper pressing are not eligible. Contact us within 7 days of delivery.
You can see our full guarantee and refund policy here.
What qualifies as a defect?
A defect includes:
-
Missing parts of your design
-

Can I return my order?
Because transfers are custom-printed, we cannot accept returns unless we request the product back for inspection.
